Another one joins the ranks.....
Hi Everyone, thanks for all the great information posted here. You all convinced me to trade my '05 KLR 250 for a new '06 KLX 250 that has been sitting at the dealer for a year. They dropped the price to $4199, not too shabby. Up to 18 miles now. Comparitively speaking, the KLR really put the "cow" in Kawasaki.
I plan on going with the mototune breakin, 13t front, Big Gun / rejet, and a WER steering damper. Maybe it's me just used to the KLR,but I can't keep the front wheel straight on gravel. Hope the WER straightens me out!
I also plan on eventually doing the slide valve mod,KDX snorkel, and the air box venting. Still need to figure out a few things.
Regards,
Donnie

RE: Another one joins the ranks.....
G'day and welcome Donnie,
unles you are racing you do NOT need a steering damper IMO. The KLX is different to the KLR but take your time, get used to it, play with different settings (tyre pressure, suspension) and see how you go. Unless your rich and just like wasting money (adding bling for no reason) a steering damper is just not needed.
Re: Big Gun have a chat to EMS_0525 before you buy a Big Gun I suggest there is better value out there.
Good luck with your bike.

Hey Donnie, welcome! [sm=welcomesign.gif]
I did the KLR-250 --> KLX250 upgrade last year, and I'm glad I did. (Mine was a 1996 model, but with the KLR, that doesn't make a lot of difference. )
I did the MOtotune breakin method as well, but the first 20 miles are the most critical (in theory, anyway). You'll still be able to see some benfits, however.
Let us know how your impressions evolve.

Donnie Welcome!!! One of the first mods I did is get rid of that stock front tire, it sucks!![sm=smiley21.gif] When I had the stock tire the front end would wander all over the place in loose dirt. It did not track straight and forget about trying to turn, itwould want to wash out...I replaced it with an excella tire and it is a night and day differance...good luck! Hope you find this helpful..[sm=smiley20.gif]

Deej - Maybe you are already aware of this Shelton Dual Sport ride (see link below), I may make it, a buddy lives in Oly but he may or may not be in town:

onestarr99 - thanks for the tip, a new tire is definitely cheaper than the WER kit.
YYY.GUY - Fortunately I was able to start the mototune breakin at 1 mile,
mole, suprakawigrl, toad1025 - thanks for the welcome!
