Talking Another KLX Newbie

Hey folks
Just got me a NEW 2009 KLX250S last August.Been searching around various sites looking for a breathable exhaust for my new baby.I absolutely love this bike.It feels great and very lite.Seeing that its been so long since I've owned a bike,it keeps feeling like I'm starting all over again.I think the little darlin needs just a bit more bottom end "umff".I live in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta Canada so there's no escaping big hills.Already once she powered out on a hill.Other than that,I can fully understand all the lust for this lil darlin oozin' out of this site(that I'm also new to).I've been reading all day here and found many good tips.
Unfortunately, with the "great Canadian Peso" up here, getting a good exhaust system is a major OUCH! Between $500.00 to $800.00 cdn after freight and exchange!I have no idea how Kawasaki thinks 250cc's can breath through a 9/16 hole at the end of it all,but something HAS to be done.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.I am an auto mechanic and have tools and a mig.Just don't want to "mess" with it "too" much till after the warranty is over.
I really like your site here fellas, lots of great threads and great people.Should be fun! CHEERS to you all!

You can start with a 13 tooth countershaft sprocket, just go to a Honda dealer and order one for a XR650L. It doesn't matter what year. Don't mention that you want it for a KLX because then it just confuses the parts dude.
You can order a full Muzzy exhaust from your local MC dealer. I got mine from here on Vancouver Island, if you cna't find a place in Alberta.

I would go to the kawi dealer and buy a couple of larger main jets, a different needle jet, and perhaps a 140 pilot jet unless you have 60 bucks to spend on a DJ jet kit which comes with way more stuff than you need. Look at Wext Oz's signature for the correct needle jet #.
Then do the free mods and yo will have a pretty peppy machine.
All the aftermarket pipes are loud and they all seem to work so I wouldn't sweat which one you get to much except for personal preference of looks.
Have fun.

Two Brothers

Welcome to THE site. N1TC needle with clip and collar are the cheap option to open up the carb along with a #132 main jet and a#38 pilot. (All Kawa parts.)

Oh, and does anybody know how good or bad a Vance & Hines XCR slip on muffler is. I,ve never heard of them personally but they can be bought pretty reasonable I've noticed.

Seen them a lot on drag bikes . Must be popular. Open ended and noisy, if that's your bag go for it.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I get a lot of parts and goodies from Gnarlyparts.ca. Just as an example they have an FMF Q4 slip on for your bike for $467.95 and the FMF powerbomb header for $310.95. A lot yes but but up here we dont have a lot of choice. They moved from Vancouver to Chilliwack and any order over $150 is free shipping. There is a Two brothers distributor in Quebec I think, 2bros dont ship to Canada. You would have to go to the 2bros site and look up international distributors. Good luck and have fun on your new bike, once you start modding it never seems to end but its worth it.

go with a slip on if you have no plans for a jug upgrade.. 13 tooth as mentioned and id suggest dumping the air box lid (more so being that your in the mountains!!)as long as you dont plan on taking your bike scuba diving.. install a K&N and rejet and it will be a different machine.

Hey, welcome to KF! Lots of good info in here if you search for it.
WARNING! Modding your KLX can become habit forming!

Welcome Brendan, glad to have to on here, I would look for a used 300 pipe as some have stated on here. I love my Muzzy but I only got that because I could charge it on my Kawi card. If I was watching my Loonies and Toonies, I would definitely go used. Again welcome and have a blast on the bike, I know I do. I had a 15-20 year break from bikes (with the exception of the Yamaha 750) and for the last three + years have had absolutely nothing but fun.
