Default Angle of the bars....

I replaced the bars recently and while I was doing this task, I came up with an idea topush the bars forward from center by about 1 inch.
Should the bars, when looked at from the side, be perfectly alligned with the forks? Or can you position the bars any way you feel comfotable.
Would there be some un-written code about this, perhaps a saftey issue that I am unaware of ?......
It does feel different, but I don't know if I can attribute this to the new bars or the angle at which I have them set. This is the reason I am asking........ as always, thank you for any assistance.

I was wondering the same thing, if I rolled the bars forward I think I could gain an inch, which could help when standing and riding which I do half the time, even on the streets. I wonder if they can give you a ticket for standing and riding? Does anyone know?

When i put mine on, i sat on the bike and put my hands on the bars and said that feels about right.... and tightened it up... i was wondering the same thing, and i couldnt see any reason why you couldnt rotate them for your comfort.

Put them how they feel comfy. I have raced BMX and Mountain bike most of my life and tried a lot of positions for my handle bars. Every position will change thecontrol because of your hand position (if that makes scense). IE:If your wrists are cocked up/forward it is gonna be harder to get to the levers or too far down and your body weight will rest on your wrists more...etc. Find where you are comfortable the bars can handle the position.
