Yeah I know. It's not on the outside either. Didn't want to crack it open until I eliminated the easy stuff.

Bummer....

I replaced the shift star on my 09, which is easy to do. Hopefully, you've a loose-fitting shift pin on it, or something like that, which wouldn't require splitting the case. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Yeah, could be the star. It's only downshifts to 2nd and 1st. It's not all the time. Maybe once or twice a ride. When it happens, I can stomp on the shifter and it won't go. I let the clutch out and pull it right back in and then it'll down shift.

Well, it IS a bit longer lever travel from 2nd to 1st, which is why I wondered if the lever is hitting something on the frame or skidplate...and, it can be worse when the lever is loose on the spline. But, from 3rd to 2nd...I don't think that's a longer lever travel between those two gears.

Anyway, back to oil, and I hope it's not a hard fix for you.

I use Castrol 20/50 and change it at around 4000 to 5000 km. I also change the air in my tires, at regular intervals, and rotate my spokes one hole to the left each winter. Sometimes I rotate the tires.

You CHANGE the air in your tires was this a misprint?

^ its a joke, what he really should be changing is the blinker fluid and checking the muffler bearings.

No, but, it was a misprint when he said he moves the spokes one hole to the left every winter. Since he lives in the Northern Hemisphere, everyone knows you move them one hole to the right every winter, preferably within 2 degrees of the winter Solstice.

Amsoil makes blinker fluid too...??? Dang! And I've been using the cheap stuff all these years.

Why not go for the trifecta of services... replace the blinker fluid, muffler bearings, and nitrogen in your tires.
