Am I crazy? Should I take the KLX on this trip?

edit: actually a late 1960's movie. see this: http://www.holeshot.com/old/cycle_south/cs_vid.html for a review.

I’d suggest that the ‘sane-crazy’ model is all relative when applied to the question of which bike to take. We’re motorcyclists; WE’RE ALL CRAZY! From that perspective, there is no difference between doing the trip on a Goldwing or a PC50. I therefore still say, “take the KLX”!

dont listen to the nay sayers. ive done 1200, in 4 days, 70% off road. ive done 330 mile days, all highway/freeway, cruising an honest 65. just put the stock sprocket on and your good. just be sure to check the oil once in a while, as these bikes tend to burn oil at high rpms. long trips on this bike are a blast as long as your not trying to keep up with speeeding ktm 990s. if he only like to cruise at 60 or so, this bike will do just fine.

Well unless something changes, we'll be going in July. I'm still thinking about the KLX, although I did a long ride (lot of hours, but not many miles) in the saddle yesterday, and it did really make me think about the seat. Even with lightly padded bicycle shorts on, I can tell you that I'm glad I'm not back on it today. So the Husky is looking good, but I could do something about the KLX seat that might make it win out. I'll have to decide soon.

Update
Well I thought I'd give an update, in case anyone was wondering what I decided. My trip is coming right up. I have decided to ride my Husky again this year, not because the KLX is incapable, but because I waited too long to get the KLX ready in time for the trip.
I actually did a trial run on the KLX that included some freeway riding, and just generally more highs peed road riding. It performed well. But I decided that to travel long distance on it, I would need to do the following: change the seat (#1 most important thing!), change the tires (to something more street worthy), possibly install some sort of windscreen, change the countersprocket back to stock, and get the carb dialed in a little better.
I hope to take the KLX on a trip in the future, once I get it more prepared for traveling. I'm even thinking about a 351 kit.

Just read this for the first time, from the start. I was all ready to reply no way with the KLX and stock seat - but guess you came to the same conclusion. Have fun - the Husky looks like a nice bike.
