Alright, gents..

Good thought, but my X-ring chain is lubed every ride with a quality dry wax telfon lube. All rub blocks have been replaced with higher quality aftermarket units, and it didn't change this infrequent noise at all. Like I said, I'm chalking it up to just a funky noise for an off road bike, as it has done nothing to performance or reliability. I have, however, stopped Ned Beatty from riding with me.

I'll chime in as I have similar problem, but my funky noise is definitely coming from the front. I can only hear it at very low (crawling) speeds. It is sort of electronic sounding high pitch whistling sound with varying frequency.
First I thought that it was the CDI, but the source seems to be coming from the right front side of the motor. I also think it is more pronounced when bike is in turn. It should be in theory brake related, but as TNC said, the sound does not change when brake is applied.
No idea at this stage what is going on.

I've got the squeal too. Started at 450mi.
Searched out some threads. Looks like some wd40 sprayed behind speedo sensor temporarily quiets things down.
I attempted to remove the front wheel to inspect the speedo sensor and discovered the clamp bolts were WAY over torqued and required a 1/2" breaker bar to loosen (s/b 15 ft/lb ??). Three broke loose but one is seized up. Murphy suggested I strip the head on the 4th... Dealer can fix that Monday at 1000km service.
FYI I use torque wrenches and Loktite religiously now.
