I don't know off hand what the differences are between the Legend and Legend Cx, but I think they're significant, so its worth checking out. ktn's recommendation may still be valid though, despite the differences.

FYI - The eTrex Venture Cx is the same GPS unit at the Legend Cx (except for the yellow case), but it comes in a cheaper bundle (no software, no interface cable, no memory card). About the only problem I've heard about with the Legend Cx / Venture Cx is in regard to geocaching accuracy - it gets you to around 6-12 feet of the cache, which apparently is not that good compared to other units. All other reviews were very positive. (Geocaching isn't on my list of desirable features, so its not an issue for me.)

Re: Marty's comment - I've heard about bad connections with the battery contacts, but not the cigarette lighter. Is the connection problem between the GPS and the cable, or the cable and the cigarette lighter socket? Sometimes an intermittent power connection masks itself as a problem in dropping satellites ... the disconnect apparently is so quick that the unit doesn't lose power completely, but just long enough for the receiver circuit to reset.

Re: ktn's comment: " ... cold weather means putting the bike up and tuning up the boards. "

Maybe the bike has to be put away and boards need to be tuned, but don't put the GPS away!!!

Yep, there is an "issue" with quick satellite "drops and reacquistions" - that is a false speed is displayed. This is the speed that usually is displayed when that happens.

Either that is what happened, or my Mikuni is really running very good! [sm=gears.gif]

One of my riding partners has a Lowrance I-Way 100M that he raves about.

It's a pretty good deal - a discontinued model, so the deals are outstanding.

It has auto-routing, SD memory, comes with a 12 volt adaptor and SD card and mapping software.

You can read all about it, or order one here.

Another alternative.

Mine is a Magellan Explorist 100. I have had it for about 1.5years so far with no issues. Use it on the bikes and in the boat.
I can run it all day long on 2 AA rechargeables. Note this one is basic GPS functions, and does not have the capabilty to load special maps. But this one does exactly what I wanted. It's very durable and waterproof as well. Magellan makes more models that would suit your need.
Just another option.

Kawi Wawi,

The 76CSX is a step up from both the Quest and the 60CX. It is waterproof, has expandable memory, compass, barometric pressure.......

I have a 76CSX brand new in the box for sale $360.00. Let me know if you're interested.

If I was going to drop that much cash I would want something with land sea and air capabilities. Anyone have any word on the Garmin 96C?

I just received what might be the "buy of the year" on a GPS unit.

A good friend of mine has been touting the Lowrance I-Way 100M that he has on his bike. It is a fully-featured, auto-routing and mapping GPS. It comes with the GPS, a cigaretter light power source with built-in speaker, a suction cup mount, a RAM mount, a RAM handlebar mount, RAM arm, an SD chip and lots of software. This all was delivered for $139.

The display is a backlighted black and white. The unit is quite large with a very readable display. I worked late last night, so I did not get much of a chance to play with it. I hope to get some time this evening. But from what I saw, I think this is going to be an excellent unit for the price.

More to follow.

I gotta agree, Marty ... that's a great deal! You'd probably pay that just for the accessories alone!
