Airbox and smog stuff

Airbox and smog stuff
If I follow the directions here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...91&page=50Do I have to do anything else to get the bike to work properly? It looks like the guy installed an exhaust right after doing this. Is that necessary? Do I have to modify the carb or anything elsein any other way for the bike to work? I was going to pull the hoses, cap the holes, and enlarge the airbox hole. Any other tips/advice would be helpful.
Thanks

If you are just doing those two things there is nothing else you need to do. But if you put on a full aftermarket exhaust you need to rejet carb and open up the airbox. I used the same advrider thread when I did those mods.

I think you can drill the 1/2" hole in the airbox without doing the exhaust. That shouldn't have anything to do with the exhaust. What I meant by "open up the airbox" was that you would need to let more air in the top of the airbox lid either by a larger snorkel , cutting a larger hole or removing the lid completely. How much you open it up depends alot on how much more fuel you will be adding. You would need to do this if you re jetting and put on an aftermarket pipe. Hope this clears things up.

Don't know the size but you can just slip a rubber plug over each and save a lot of work. I bought some vacuum plugs at NAPA and they worked great. Check out pic's at this link http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...91&page=50

Anyone know the inside diameter of the hose from air check valve to the exhaust port on this smog jig? I will plug it with bolt and hose clamp, but of course want the right size bolt.

Thank you for the reply. So I take it you have not had any heat related issues with that rubber cap on the exhaust port? That's the reason I kept the tube and corked it, as others have suggested.
I did (almost) all the mods last night. 2.5 hrs to to the smog, air box mods (crank vent, new filter, remove snorkel), and rejet, drill slide vent, replace needle, and replace air screw with Koubalink. Now I can be proud of my signature... If only that darn Muzzy would arrive already to finish this off.
I was pleasantly suprised it started up again after the mods. This was a bit out of my initial comfort zone, but all the great help here gave me the confidence to tackle this. Great forum!

Haven't had any problems so far. I was wondering the same thing about the heat, but then I just figured a rubber hose was on the exhaust port before so it shouldn't get that hot. I hope I'm right.
