RE: Air filters that will fit ?
any filters for the klx300 will work. for somewhat clean conditions (non dusty) go with a k&n.. for really nasty conditions id go with a foam filter (prob a uni) just to be safe.

I WILL post picks in a day or two when I fit a piece of Outerwears over a hole in my lid. I have to fabricate a top clamp and decide how big a hole I want...and if you've seen any of my previous fabs you know I'm definitely function over form...so don't expect anything TOO perty !
I had used Outerwears on a lid on my previous Z400 quad, it opened it up as good as having no lid, but kept out the dirt and water. I had a K&N under that one and it didn't need cleaned in the two years I had that quad. In the winter I would put duct tape over half the hole to 'choke' it some, which worked good.
Anyways, we'll see....no going back once I cut the lid.

Interesting. I checked-out the Outwears website. Will you use one of their shaped prefilters, or can you actually buy chunks of the material?

I had an extra piece from when I had bought a lid with the prefilter for my 2003 Z400. I think I will get two filters out of it, it was like $7 back then when I bought it with my Z400 lid kit (it was a filter and a bracket, I had to cut out the stock lid). I don't know what they sell as far as pieces now.
I doubt I'll do the whole lid, as the stock filter up front doesn't let mucy airflow there anyways. I'm thinking back half. It will be a fun little project....but running 'topless' now.

RE: Air filters that will fit ?
The k&n filter is a really tight fit in the klx air box. I've used k&n in all my bikes and some vehicels since 1982. I ride in all conditions some very dusty. No problems. One recomendation if you use one is to use a thin layer of grease on the sealing side of the filter. The rubber is a little hard and the grease makes a good seal.
