I ran with the snorkel removed on a trip last weekend, bike shut down in a creek crossing. Turns out the rear tire throws water right through a gap in the fender and lands on top of the air box. No lid would have been worse, but same effect for me. I'm putting a KLX300 snorkel on soon I think.

Do you have the "Y" mod on your carb vent lines?

With so many here with lids off and I've never heard of that problem. Several have stalled from not doing the "Y" mod.

An oxygen eliminator should stop the bike running too lean.
Cheap and easy to fit.

We're a very small club on this forum with EFi. I can think of about 20 of us on here.....the carb boys rule!!

Jules: Without the "Y" mod these bikes do not like water crossing; modding mine tonight! After the mod, if you still have issues you may want to zip-tie and epoxy a piece of plastic over that gap in the rear fender. The "Y" mod will certainly not hurt.

I'll do the Y mod soon then. I thought it shut down a bit early. I did the mod on a klr650 I used to own, didn't realize it was needed on this bike also. Would have saved me some interesting pushing through fast moving water with rocks. It sucked.

I did the "Y" early and have never had a problem. Crossed this river riding over in a different location than this pic (where it was actually much shallower), walked it back 'cause the ride over skeered me. Kept getting deeper, swifter, and with bigger slicker rocks. I KNEW I was a gonner, but somehow lucked out and climbed up the bank on two wheels.

With my bike being the "EFI" version would it be beneficial for me to remove the airbox lid and/or snorkel? i do have a FMF powercore 4 installed.
there shouldn't be a problem with it running lean etc?

Thanks
