An update on using the NGK AFX a/f meter
I just finished tuning the XR200 with the a/f meter, and got it so very close without even taking it off the stand You guys need to get an a/f meter and pass it around or something..
Here's how it went today..
Picking from last time I worked on the XR, I took out the 42 pilot jet and put in a 40 and whoops the 'box' says waaay to rich..what the heck happened?? I take it apart and ahh I see... I'd misread it and put a 48 in by mistake! ..I probably would have been riding around with that 48 in there for how long trying to see how it felt etc ..BUT relying on the box, I took it apart and spotted wrong sized pj inside.
So in goes the 40 pilot jet.. a little leaner fuel mix down low than with the 42 and a/f ratio now in the 12s, but too lean as I rev it some-in fact popping as the revs get higher and the box is reading above 15:1, so I richen the needle one notch and BINGO it's looking good
I finish it off by richening up the idle mix a little and I'm a happy camper. Still need to do on the road WOT testing though; and of course more tuning on the Kawasaki
- Best thing since sliced bread. It saved me a ton of time and effort. Next report will be on the Kaw

Hey Richard, lets go buddy.. We need some actual AFR's on that TM36-68 as well as the difference the insert makes.. I want to buy the carb but I will not tune it based on opinion and conjecture without any actual numbers to back up the suggestions. I thought the DJ stage 2 was perfectly fine as the bike ran great - Dyno AFR chart showed just how wrong I was.
I'd like to do the same with the TM36 if you can get me in the ballpark with your AFR meter and settings... OK?
