Default Air box

Has anyone just drilled the top plate using the stock snorkle instead of spending 30.00 on the kdx 200 snorkle. Has this been done?
Thanks, Rick

Yes, it has been done. Just about everything you can think of has been tried when it comes to the airbox lid.

Yes, you can put holes or cut out sections in the lid but it will get louder. The reason why a lot of people use the KDX snorkel is because you get the increased flow without any of the noise.

So when you cut holes in the lid, you might as well just take the lid off.

Same question different angle. I was getting a blubbering or stumble at 9,000 RPM. I already have the KDX snorkel because I do not like loud bikes.

I went to the 351, then the TYM36-68 pumper carb. That is when I started getting the blubbering at 9,000 and up.

Monday I pulled the lid and went for a ride. EEEeeee HhHhhaaa!! No more stumble and I could hit the rev limiter like nothing.

SO has anyone drilled the air box so its still quiet? I would like to leave the KDX snorkel in, drill the sides of the air box so it can breathe better and still be quiet.

Has anyone done this?

David

With the above mods it went from weed whacker to thumper!

If it matters, I modified the stock muffler so it can breathe much better but is still quiet.

unfortunately, the only solution would be to cut another rectangle and put a second snorkel in if you want it quiet

How about a larger snorkel from some other bike and cut the hole to make it fit? Like a 500?

So you're saying that even the kdx snorkle is not enough for the 351.

Taking the snorkel out does not make it that loud. I can't hear it over the exhaust any way. Your bike will thank you.

You MJ is too big. It stumbles because it runs too rich at WOT.
Put the lid back on an drop few steps down in MJ size.
