The ability the turn off both low and high beam at will. Gives me the option to start the bike without the lights running when the switch is in the off position.
Yep, its that simple.

I over complicated the latch circuit a bit.

If you use the earth return from the headlight as the switching point, then this will do it.

+1 ...........Nope, this is how I would do it. No new holes to drill with an unsightly switch mounted in already limited space. Making a current switch do double duty is great!

Nice thing is these bikes are really easy to push start LOL. neilaction looks like you have a real good understanding of electronics. I like how you Aussies are such well grounded and down to earth folks.

No offense roadglider but when most people see a wiring diagram they run for the hills! Once you understand what the symbols are for in the diagrams and the basics of what a diode, resistor, relay, latching relay and a couple of others things do you got it made!

I know a little about electronics. I know the symbols for a diode (switch, ground, cap, inductor, etc..) and that it passes current on the forward bias and won't on the reverse bias. I just thought it was a clever and simple way to do it, and I'm into really bad puns.

Someday when I'm not so broke, I am going to install the kick starter. I often ride down roads only to end up at the bottom, then its off to explore on foot. There is no push starting the bike in that situation. for $300. I want to add that option back in. I did the install on the wife's 2006 XT 225, and it was a piece of cake. Here is the link to that job. I did this right after my......uhhhhh.....man surgery. LOL

And here is a good writeup from Finger on our bikes.

Have you ever tried to push start a KLX250? Mine is a pig to push start just locks the back wheel almost every time even in second gear. Never had the electric start let me down yet.

Neil's idea is a good one though if you want the light off to start with.
