Advice on drilling my pipe
Hey all , who here has drilled out there stock pipe? Right now i dont have 3 small to dump on a pipe. I'm just wanting to know how to do it , how far to drill in, what size bit to use, and how easy is it to do. Just a basic over-view would rock . Thanx in advance.

Just a 1/2 inch bit, directly into the tail pipe opening, drill through the first plate it hits. I think it's in there maybe 3 inches. Don't expect huge gains, but it does help a little when done in combination with rejetting and opening up the airbox.

Most people just either pull the lid completely, or pull the snorkel out. Either way is a vast improvement.
One warning, though, I wouldn't do that without first rejetting. The stock carb settings are pretty lean, at least for most folks depending on your elevation. If you live at 9000 feet in Colorado or something you might be OK.

jetting is the most important part. by opening up the exhaust and the air box your allowing more air to flow thru the motor. without getting more fuel in thereyour making a bad situation worse. well it's not bad per say but it could be better. the only way to make it better is to get more air AND more fuel to the motor. if your not going torejet then don't do too much on the air side. like brian said the bike is lean from the factory.you don't want to hurt that little motor by making it leaner.

RE: Advice on drilling my pipe
If you start opening up your air flow with intake and exhaust or just one you need to jet accordingly. For exhaust, the biggest bang for your dollar is a Four Stroke Works (FSW) head pipe, about $155.00 and a stock KLX 300 exhaust pipe with the but plug removed. There is a KLX300 exhaust on e-bay right now for $10.00 and they are for sale all the time. You will need to fabricate or buy a turn down tip. FSW will make you one or there is a really nice billet one on e-bay all the time for about $35.00. That set up will perform as good or better than any other system made. It just doesn't look as cool as the aftermarket units and is slightly heavier. Another advantage is it will never require to be repacked like the aftermarket units do.

If you are going to open things up you will need to rejet. It is not that hard- There are some very good instruction in the forms- The one I liked the best was from hmf? it think- had great step by step pictures on how to get the carb out. That is the hard part. Buy a dyno jet kit it will have every thing you need and good instruction on the carb rejeting. Now for the good part- if you rejet- remove the air box lid, open the hole in the air box crakecase vent, add a 13t counter shaft , you will have a new bike with a nice power boost. Also I did the 1/2 drill in the exhaust, it did help some, but I think it put a hole in the spark arestor.
Best of luck-

Perhaps someone could post a link to that step by step on rejetting? It scares me to think about taking that apart... lol but it probaly would do my bike a world of good , specially when i do drop 3 small on a pipe... btw what is the pipe FMF powercore 4? They make for the 06 klx 250?
