Added an R....
Well fellow KLX members, I am happy to say I've added an R to my X of KL series.
A friend of mine sold me his 1996 KLR. 16,000 kms. Mint shape.
Extras include:Tank guard, engine guard with hwy pegs, taller windshield, brake cylinder guard, new tires, gel seat, gel grips, SS braided brake lines, skid plate, water pump guard, DJ kit, K&N air filter, extra capacity rear rack, doohickey replaced at 12,000kms, adjustable A/F mixture screw, New fork boots and best of all, 2005 color scheme!
A pic:
Can't believe that at first I was gonna get rid of the KLX....what was I thinking????
I bought the KLX250 back in summer of '08 and have logged over 37,000 kms since. Love that little bike. She stays in my stable.
The KLR just let's me get further when I wanna do some distant exploring. I really don't enjoy using the KLX on the highway. So now I'm good to go.

KLR's are good bikes. I had 4 of them over the years and had a blast with all of them. As my riding got more focused on more dirt and less pavement, the KLX has filled the bill better...but...the big KLR will do a lot of things well. You've got the best scenario there with keeping both bikes.

Thats what I'm hoping. Not many trails open during winter or spring, so this will fill a void. Also, I want to do some distant exploring, but in a day trip only. Having something comfy for the highway, will get me to woods roads yet unexplored much quicker. With all the hills around here, having tractor trailers sniffing at the rear fender loses it's charm real quick. Still... if I ever have to go back to one bike... it would be back to the KLX. Enjoyment factor is high..... plus it is easier to push through the snow.

So true for me as well. Have been watching for a good buy for many months now. In my area, we're entering the 'buyers market' right now.
You've picked up a nice looking sled.
Congrats! Keep us posted on your rides and farkles

If you ride some rough terrain with the KLR, and want something to make that short-stroke suspension work better than you'd ever expect, look up RICOR Suspension. Paris-Dakar racing-heritage quality suspension experience. The engineer in charge patented the multilink suspension that Suzuki burst onto the scene with in the 70's and kicked everyone's tails at the MX track. Local company to me is the reason I know about them. They let me do some Beta-testing on some of their KLR tuned parts. Local guys say my KLR is the XR of the KLR's around these parts. They exaggerate a bit, as the KLR will never be an XR, but, it can certainly be better than it comes in stock suspension form!
