600 Mile service question

600 Mile service question
I bought my an 09 KLX 250s in late July, and I have just gone past the 600 mile mark. The dealer told me the 600 mile service was absolutely required (to change oil and whatnot), however I changed the oil at 20 miles, and the oil and filter at 300 miles. So what else do they do on the 600 mile checkup? Will I void the warranty by skipping it?
I only ask because I found out after I bought the bike (of course) that this dealer is notorious for having terrible customer service and doing crappy repair work.
Thanks!
John

Thats the dealer trying to drum up business, of which I have no respect for. Scare tactics don't work on me and never will. As long as you keep receipts and document the work, you can do all of it yourself. Also don't let them tell you that changing the jetting or adding a pipe voids the warranty....another lie!

I'm no expert!!! But I might go ahead and change it again some time soon if I were you just to be absolutely sure there aren't any leftover metal shavings or whatnot from break-in but that's just my opinion.

At 500 miles my dealer gave me this advice. Now that the bike is broken in properly, change the oil and filter, run it hard for a while to seat the valves. Then bring it in for the first service to have the valves adjusted. When I brought it in, the valves did not need adjusting.

I just called and they said not only are they booked out for 2 weeks but they only check spark plug and change oil, and it would be $112 + parts for their trouble.
Not sure why anyone would ever pay that for a 5 min oil change + sparky check, but whatever.
Thanks for the advice guys!

I had my bike in twice for warranty work, once at 5000 and again at like 7500 and both times the valves were perfect. As far as oil changes, I did something like:
1st 20
2nd 100
3rd 500
4th 1500
Then every 3000 using Amsoil Full Synthetic Motorcycle Oil
1st 20
2nd 100
3rd 500
4th 1500
Then every 3000 using Amsoil Full Synthetic Motorcycle Oil

There are other things to be done on the 600 mile service besides the oil change. Things like checking for tightness of fittings, clutch and brake adjustment, etc. I don't remember the spark plug being part of the 600 miles check. I did find my clutch and throttle cables needing adjustments. Shifted much better, especially into neutral, after the adjustment.
I think everyone should have a service manual that tells when and how to do all this stuff.

I found the shop manual for it, you're right it does want you to do quite a few things at 600 and none of it mentions spark plug. Oh well, thanks for the suggestion this will make everything much easier.

Yeah the local stealership mailed me a flier that said and I quote "Only 99.99 for a full-service oil change including filter, checking brakes, checking clutch lever, throttle, (and some other B.S.). Yeah right. A Ben Franklin for $10 bucks of oil and a filter they get for pennies on the dollar, and so some jackass can crank on the throttle and squeeze the brake lever.
I change mine every 700-1500 miles but I ride lots and lots of street.
