50 Tooth Rear Sprocket?

RE: 50 Tooth Rear Sprocket?
What exactly are you modding to make the 50 fit? Also what size chain are you using? Thanks

I spent 5 min with a cut off tool to get it to fit. I don't post much on here anymore due to a tool that post on here, but I can now ride 4th gear power wheelies and love it.

Yupper! That's pretty much the personality ofour bike. The more you go up in displacement the larger the differenceis betweentop-end and midtolow end pull. You pretty much get a linear curveuntil about 8000 then the slope changes for the worst...starts tapering-off in a hurry.I'm going with different cams and an earlier CDI, butthat onlygets back part of what is lost in the top end when you go with a larger piston.

I just wished the top end had the pull that the bottom and mid does.

Yep I'm well aware of it the cam change is really going to effect my bottom end so I really not sure what I'm going to do. This winter I'm going to dive deeper into this problem I'm well aware of the cdi problem.

kgwld1, I think your gearing is too high. With the 340, you ought to have plenty down low and the low and mid-range will be where your power is. But with the gearing so high, you're spending most of your time in the high RPMs and like others have said, the KLX engine just doesn't have much up there.
As far as a single-track granny gear, I'd recommend to not do that ... instead gear it up and use your clutch. I think you'd find that with the stock KLX gearing of 14:42 and your 340cc bore size, you can lug and clutch it nicely down low through the tight stuff and it won't stall. And then you'll still have plenty of room in the mid- and upper range to wind it out. Some weekend when you're bored give that a try.

I've tried 14 /42, 13/42, 14/45, 13/45, 14/48, 13/48, 13/50,14/50 and the higher gearing wasn't right no snap that I need! The top end pull even with the higher gearing wasn't that great. I think it has to do with the limitations of the engine design.
