Default 47T Sprocket - Chain Lenght

I changed out my rear sprocket on my 2010 to at 47T. Somewhere I read that the stock chain would work with the stock 14 front and this new 47 rear. It won’t. Now I’m trying to figure out what size chain I need. On line chain calculators indicate I need 116 links. This is up 10 from the stock which seems too long to me. Is this right? -- Thanks!

There is a post somewhere on here that has a list of chain length for a lot of gear combos. "Search" might find it.

Put the chain on, and arrange it so the gap in the chain is captured on your rear sprocket. Count the missing links.

Thanks! And believe me I did before posting my question. I tried several variations and combinations with chain as the key word. Results only added to my confusion. Swing arm changes somewhere in the family tree of KLX's makes a difference with the number of links. My google search of for chain lenght caculators came up with 116 links. Still more confusion...

I was hoping someone running the same combination and year model would see my post and set me in the right direction.

BDD:
When I installed a 49 tooth rear sprocket (used with 13, 14 & 15 front), I replaced stock 106 link chain with 116 link cut to 110. I just replaced the 49 with a 45 and needed to take 2 links out, so down to 108 links and the 45 works with 13, 14 & 15 also.

I kind of did this, but the lazy man way. I didn't undo the master link but put the chain on around the rear sprocket and estimated how many links it was short in order to "stab" the axle back in the hub. I figured 2 links.

Your idea makes more sense. Time to remove the master link...

Thanks for the relpy.

Not sure if any differences in the years, but on my 2007 I put a 110 link chain on with a 47 tooth (stock 14 F). Pretty close to the upper scale on the tightening cams when new. As things wore, I reduced chain to 108 links.

Removed the master link, put the wheel back on, set on the "marks" as the original tension and pulled the chain around on the rear sprocket. I still came up with 2 links. Peace of mind... I'm ordering a DID standard with 108 links.

Thanks for your replies. I'll be going with 108 links.

Also noticed that both of you have a KLR in your stable too. I have an 08 with 16,000 miles.
