351s gearing and chain
Ill be spending the morning shift of my work reading through all the gearing threads but just wanted to get peoples favorite combos. I snapped my chain tension bolt on one side at big bear last weekend and did a number on my chain and sprockets. Im replacing all. I was just curious what people are really enjoing on bored out s models. Id like to still have legs on the freeway and I commute city streets to work every day, but most interested in ripping on trails. Thanks for your insights guys!

I had just been running 15/42 and it seemed pretty good for my riding. I have 13 14 & 15t but havent played with rear sprocket at all

I ran a 48/13 combo off road. Was like a tracktor. Totally useless except on really tight stuff becuase from 3rd to 6th all felt the same. Gone back to standard rear and 14 front for all round performance. I have a 13 and 15 depending on my mood. The 331 with Webcams has plenty snap off idle, so I am happily back on stock gearing.
With the SF setup 15/39 is really tall and gives perfect gear ratio on road, but the bitch wont wheely, so 14 front does it for me.

I ran a 49 rear and 13/14/15 up front until 351, then dropped the rear to 45, pulled links from the chain, and still run 13/14/15. I miss the 49 occasionally on the really steep cruddy stuff, but all around I think I can live with the 45.

Why do you want aluminum? More expensive, wears faster, and sure it's a little lighter but is it enough to notice on your KLX?
I saw in Dirt Bike mag recently where they have aluminum sprockets with a steel outer ring so they wear same as chain and not faster than the chain. Cool. And a tad pricey.
