351 Kit, Please!

351 Kit, Please!
Hello Everybody,
A buddy of mine has an '09 KLX250S that I think is a hoot to ride. Better ergos than my XT and much easier to handle than my DR. I'm wondering if a KLX 351 could take the place of both my bikes? A stock KLX with a 13T C/S sprocket is more than adequate for my trail riding since I'm a wuss and just poke along. My main concern would be the street ability of the 351. I'd need to be able to load it with my luggage and put on 600 miles running a true 70-75 mph. Is this asking too much? I'm a nut for even thinking along these lines? I'd like to hear the opinions of you folks who have experience modifying these bikes. Thanks in advance, please chime in if you can.

First, Welcome the the forum.
As far as your question goes. I own a too much money spent modded 351 klx and I still own my ktm 640, one wil never replace the other.
Keep the dr, sell the xt and buy the klx.
Oh post some pics......of your bikes of course

Thanks for the warm welcome. Care to elaborate on your advice??
I've got Photobucket but I'm stumped on posting pictures here.
Anybody else with info about the 351 kit? Thanks again.

Welcome to KF.
I'm with finger.
Its hard to have the best of both worlds.
I'd think about keeping the DR and replacing the XT with a KLX.
The KLX is probably a better all round bike than the XT but it won't feel as easy on the flat top as the DR, Even with the 351 kit.
That applies even more if you are loaded up.
BTW, I have the 300 kit fitted but I am considering fitting the 351 kit over the summer once the riding season is over.
Good luck

I'm already thinking about the 351 but just a little worried about the reliability...Have you had any problems with yours Mullet?

No. I fitted mine with the Kustom Kraft 331 before Bill started offering the 351. Then I sold my KLX a while back. Plenty of folks have installed it though, I don't recall any complaints.

Well sure, but it is just my opine.
My job is about 45 miles south of me. I've ridden the klx on I95 in S. Florida for that commute a few times.....not fun really, sure she can scoot along at 80 mph, which is required on that road, but it is no fun at all.....in fact everytime I hit my exit I sighed relief. Now my adv or your dr .... well it can just thump along at 80 right?
Not sure how to elaborate more.....but if you really only want one bike that ktm 990 super enduro may do the trick.
