Brian, Marty, or who ever knows. Installing the 331, and I don't have any info on which is the 'top' and 'second' ring. I want to put the brown ring on top, and the gray/carbon one in the second groove.

I don't remember, my weisco piston came with instructions.....I just remember having to stagger the notches......someone will chime in.... take a beverage break.

If I remember right the ring with the tightest fit was the top one.

 

I'm not recalling off the top of my head. Do you have the service manual? I think they do a good job of differentiating the rings there and which side up they go, as well as orienting the ring gaps relative to each other and the front of the piston. One ring is square edged, while the other has one edge beveled, if I'm recalling. I'm thinking the rings in the Kustom Kraft kit were a little harder to tell apart from the Kawasaki OEM rings. Check for lettering on one side of the ring, that can help identify orientation.

Did the kit have any instructions in it with regard to ring orientation?

Ok, so I broke down and saw the service guys at my local powersport shop. The top ring is the Brown, and the second is the gray/carbon. Thanks for the input guys, and 'hey' Deej, the Desert 100 is in four months.
