Default 300 KIT Ride report

I just put in the 300 (292cc) kit, took about 4-5 hours and was very straight forward. I did have to replace the 'O' ring on the water pipe at the front of the cylinder as it was toast.
I started out like most others with the free mods etc, then Dynojet followed by full Muzzy and a 14/49 w/ new DID. Helped the bike alot but altogether it did not IMO net the results posted by some; roll-on wheelies and what have you. It still required you to wait for the revs to get you into the power zone.
Straight up no bollocks, the 300 kit made all the difference, not just in so far as added displacement goes but it also allowed some of the other mods to make more sense; namely the Dynojet kit, which is really designed around the 300 and the Muzzy which is factory 'tuned' for the KLX 300R.
So how does it run? Well only a pumper carb is going to give you that instant snap but the kit now gets the bike off the bottom as if the bike had just shed 50lbs! Roll-on wheelies?.. Yes! On tight technical trails a quick twist of the throttle does lift the front wheel up and keeps it there if you wish so. Of course it is also noticeably more luggable as well. Throttle steers very nicely now on loose terrain and I hit redline in sixth up 5% grades(on highway) as well.
Now perhaps some will take exception to some of my persinal findings but I had hoped to find such a post myself before I decided to go down this route and did not find any that answered my concerns/querries, so I post this thread for those that are considering this option and want the honest skinny. It is well worth it and by far made the most significant improvement in useable power, all for about the same cost or less than a full Muzzy, I had mine shipped from Oz. Hope this helps

Do you have a parts list? So I can buy ALL the stuff before handing over to the mechanic?
Also, why did you get it from Oz? Is it because it had evrything you needed in the kit, without buying other stuff to make it work? If so, how can I get one, and where, and how much?
I want to get one myself, but want to get all the stuff first, so it doesn't end up sitting in the shop forever "waiting for parts".

Hmmm, this sounds interesting. Please let us know all the parts to get and the part numbers if you get the time.

Kogarah? I was born in Kogarah hospital, mines running great mate I haven't fitted the kit yet I just wanted to start off with something I can handle without being worried about too much power seeing as the bike is too tall for me, only mods I have made so far is Bark Busters, rim lock in the back tyre, some foam removed from the seat. I think thats all
Cheers

Kogarah... that's the one.
Garry, the kit will not overwhelm you as the CVK will still deliver power in a progressive fashion off the bottom. One item that is overwhelmed however is the stock rear tire (D603) on loose terrain as the extra bark of power will break it loose all too easily. I have a set of Kenda Trackmasters on the way, they are still DOT approved but look nothing like a DOT tire; 10/90 very aggressive looking. I think Nobiman or BMWHD over on ADV posted some pics.
Alternating from my XC-W 200 to the KLX, I find the Green machine quite fascinating. On the KTM you are full concentration, on-it faster riding; lots of gear shifting and clutch work for traction, a much more demanding bike but very satisfying when things are flowing. Then hopping on the KLX your confidence levels just soars. The overly soft suspension and luggable engine on the KLX make it great for steep and undulating crawling and very stable at higher speeds on dirtroads. Tough not in the same league as the XC-W I am still amazed at how well the 290lbs of the KLX are hidden. More than a few people at the track have come over to have a peek at this very competent little gem.
Also I find that the 300 kit now justifies the rackit coming from the Muzzys exhaust. Being at a traffic light with the Muzzy when the light changes to green was previously a little embarrassing; so much noise without the go to match made me feel a bit like one of those teenage Honda Civics with the coffee cans sticking out the back. Now the bike just goes from the start, no waiting for things to wind up and 6000rpms feels like 8500 used to. I say go for it, you'll love the luggability alone, much less frantic trying to get up to speed.

Actually you can go online to Ron Ayers and do it yourself. Here's a list of the part numbers (except for the piston (gudeon) pin clips. Don't know if it's a different part number or a typo.

11005-1983 - CYLINDER-ENGINE Price: $309.93

13002-1109 - PIN-PISTON Price: $9.63

13008-1071 - RING-SET-PISTON,STD Price: $36.66

92033-1054 - RING-SNAP Price: $0.84

11004-1314 - GASKET-HEAD Price: $37.31

11060-1740 - GASKET,CYLINDER BASE Price: $5.16

13001-1463 - PISTON-ENGINE Price: $62.64

For a grand total of $463.03
