Default 300 Exhaust Pics and a Video

Got my 300 exhaust installed. I haven't rejetted jet but I wanted to see how it sounded first before I made up my mind. I didn't get the spark arrestor with it or a gasket or clamp, so a trip to Advanced Auto and $3.70 later I have muffler bandage tape and a 1.75" exhaust clamp, U bolt style. The good news is that there is definitely more snap on the bottom end, I personally think it sounds a heckuva lot better than stock, and there is no leak in the pipe joint. The bad news is the exhaust clamp nut is touching the airbox and started to melt into it, so I'm going to have to move it somewhat or just use a hose clamp as its a pretty tight fit and the exhaust wrap had adhesive on both sides anyway.

Hmm, why this bike looks stock:

Wait a second, something is different, not entirely sure what though.

Here's a link to the video, its 25 mb but I wanted to keep the sound from getting fubared. If requested I can shrink it down to around 8 mb maybe. http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=1569vlw

Cool video and very clear. I have a full T-1 line at work so it started playing really fast. Nice sound.

Comparing pc sound files of everything I've downloaded here I'd say low and mid range its "muzzy-esque" but its raspier at mid to high range, while the muzzy sounds nice and throaty the whole time. In the vid I don't believe I went above 6K rpm. All in all for $40 I can't complain, its got a definitely meaner sound to it except its not entirely forest legal.

Well, dollar for dollar, you have the best sounding muffler hands down! The Muzzy sounds great, as does the Big Gun and I'm sure all the rest do too. But for the price, that would have been entirely acceptable for me had a KLX300 muffler been available to me. Nice job! I think I'd still at least want a spark arrester though - things get awefully dry around here and I wouldn't want to be responsible for a fire.

bryantjt hows it going , I installed the klx300 exhaust as well, the piece that goes in the end is the baffle the spark arrestor is in the front half of the muffler from what i understand, I thought of running without the baffle but too loud for me. Thanks to a16tony i was able to confirm it. If i recall correctly it was 105 db at 4000 rpm so i modified the baffle untill i obtained 95 db at 4000 rpm. I am very happy with it as of now.

Ah, so it is, just read the Kawi parts diagram again, cool now I don't need to waste any money on that then. I thought it looked kinda like mesh inside there. Now to order up a set of jets and other odds and ends.
