When I bought mine I broke it in like every other thing I own. Heat cycle the motor few times with runs up and down the rpm range with decel runs in there to. Oil change and hammer on that thing likes its a rental car.
When I changed the stock piston and jug everything was perfect. Don't be to worried with the factory brake in if you followed it for a few hundred miles and now don't want to I think everything will be a ok.

Got back a few hours ago from riding, now have 70 miles on the clock. ran it up thru the gears & decelled with the motor. Ran it from 4-8k rpm today & tried not to cruse at a steady rpm.

Im gonna pick up oil & change it before the next ride.

The more I ride it the more I like it. It definately not a rocket but runs good for what it is. I can't complain being that im almost 250#.

My brother saw the bike for the 1st time today & when he looked at the rotors, noticed that on both the front & rear disks that there is a black greasy grime on the rotor. When I rubbed my finger over the disk it fely greasy & smugged off on my finger.
Does the factory put any type of metal protectant on the bikes before they crate them? I think there was something on the rotors that wasnt cleaned off & is causing my brakes to not grab as well as they should.

I was going to clean the rotors off but I want to let the dealer see it 1st

Forgot to mention, on my way home I saw a Green KLX650 comming the other way & we greeted each other with a friendly wave. What a way to end the day!

I've cleaned my rotors a few times and noticed a difference for the first few stops after cleaning them but other than that they typically have some brake dust/mud on them and I don't worry about it anymore.

I worked at a Honda-Suzuki dealer. All those bikes came shipped in cosmoline. We pressure washed them after uncrating to get it off. Your entire bike would be coated in it if they did not wash it off.

I must say that it ain't right for the brake lever to touch the Bars when fully applied. That's a problem. I'm not saying that the upgrades aren't gonna be a big improvement but....I believe the dealer puts on the front wheel. Maybe they don't always install/bleed the front caliper properly. Anyway, Congrats on your new Bike!! The KLX is the most fun I've had my entire life. I absolutely love it! I did the Painful, slow breakin and everything worked out great.

Wow, a lot of posts about the klx front brakes. I never had an issue, ya they are a little "squishy" but they can do a stoppie, no problem, back tire comes up no problem, even with my Pirellie nobbies.

Do the braided lines actually make the brakes tighter?
