Is the lack of HP on the US/CA Bike due to emissions restrictions ?

Sorry to dig up old posts but this has me wondering (and waffling after a 12 hour stint at work late at night).

Blue Bill has dyno results of ~28 with 351 kit and pumper carb. Now Aus model is putting out ~23 stock. Surely with airbox lid removed, 300cc kit, aftermarket exhaust and jetting we in OZ could reach that figure??

I have a fairly stock bike with air lid removed and #138 main jet that I have been flogging for awhile now and pretty happy with power. I plan on making the above mods and wish i had a dyno nearby that I could test these figures after completion.

Were I am going with this is that given in Oz we are starting at a higher base level in terms of hp, are the cost of these mods (big bores, expensive exhaust systems etc) going to give us less hp increases for our buck. So hypothetically in the US a $500 slip-on might give 2 more ponies we could increase by just 1?

Or the opposite were we start with about 5 more hp, given the same level of mods, Aust spec will always be 5 hp better off?

I don't want to start a US v's Aust war. I ask this because I am embarking on spending half the value of the bike on mods based on hp improvements I have read about mostly on US bikes, were there is plenty of room for improvement. If for my Australian 2009 model I am only going to get slightly more improvement then I would be a bit more frugal with the mods.

Does anyone have experience with this or have dyno results from Australian spec bikes with pipe, 300cc kit etc.

Thanks for any input in advance.

Is the Australian bone stock KLX250S actually putting out 23hp or is that a reading from a manual?...or is that measured on an engine dyno at the flywheel? Bill's hp is measured at the rear wheel.

Good point, and short answer I don't know. But strange that Kawasaki put those figures in the manual, and given the difference in standard jet size there has to be a fair amount of difference.

I would love to get 5 more hp out of my KLX just by a small timing advance, intake mod, and rejet. I don't think that's a reality.

Thumbs up Dyno for 300CC.

Neilaction posted a Dyno chart. His bike has the Kawa' 300 kit, full Big Gun system, better filter and a pumper carb. He'll be along soon I'm sure, just with short legs and nursing a few bruises from a recent off, it takes him longer than most.
