You're right. It's there for a purpose. So I think it's a good idea to leave it in as it's not really much of an obstruction.

I was just wondering it’s something I’ve heard people do I think sometimes in a desperate attempt to eke out whatever power they can, and it’s always made me raise an eyebrow, as in more of a disbelief that someone would potentially risk a fire for something barely noticeable

2. The stock fueling scheme ( programming ) is set up to work with the detune.
3. Therefore, removing the secondary throttle valve/plate will :
Radically increase upper RPM volumetric efficiency ( "Moar aer gets a flowin" )
Require a tuner ( PCFC or EJK ) to properly "refuel" the engine for this increased VE.

Nothing "good" is possible (performance-wise) until this is detune is removed , and should be the FIRST MOD to a stock bike - both in terms of most "band for the buck" and to set the stage properly for further enhancements.
I’d also like to add this to go along with what your saying, this is from the factory service manual for the KLX300:

Your mention of needing proper fueling adjustments after this modification highlights the necessity of tuning to optimize the engine's performance safely. Online casinos haven't been canceled yet, so you can play, I found information on https://casinosanalyzer.com/online-c...opian-birr-etb let's go there? Utilizing resources like the factory service manual is a great way to gather accurate information about your motorcycle's specifications and modifications.

Well, you bolt on a PCFC or a EJK, remove the secondary plate from its' shaft, and drive slowly ( closed loop ops only ) the local dyno shop for refueling WOT and near WOT operation to 12.6 - 12.8 to one.

I put an EJK on mine, and while the engine runs ok, the gas mileage got trashed. It dropped from over 80 mpg to just 65 mpg.

A video on you tube by Best Dual Sport Bikes on deleting the secondary throttle plate
implies that no fueling adjustment is needed. Comments after watching?

Watched.. Left message for them regarding whether or not they refueled the engine after plate removal.

Klxster,
Did you ever get a response? I was dubious, when I viewed the video, that it would be so easy to gain so much in the midrange w/o fueling changes. However, if that improvement can be achieved for a reasonable price, I'd do it. My newly purchased used 2022 KLX300 can't compare to my 2007 KLX 351 but it's set up for more off road than what I plan to use the KLX300 for.

I have not gotten a response.

Open loop operations do not ( and can not ) "self re-adjust" fueling.
When a modification is made to airflow - and removing the secondary plate is a HUGE modification to airflow - open loop operations will be unable to compensate..
