For touring duty or long highway cruises i could see the weight being an asset, but if you're like me and would be using it for supermoto-esque duty, a single cylinder bike that weighs more than my decade old 4 cylinder sport bike with half the power looks like a huge step backwards.

Yes. Sorry if I was clear as mud...


Of course weight is relative. To a guy riding a GS, S10, or Tiger off road, 410lbs would feel light. At the same time the 650 will probably offer ~80% of their on road qualities. The motorcycle industry (like the auto industry) is slicing the pie thinner with more niche models. Something for everybody...great time to be into motorcycles.
