2013/14 KLX250s assembled in Thailand; what about the engine?
Hi,
Was at my local dealer and noticed that the KLX, like the Honda CRF250L, is assembled in Thailand, I also noticed that the many of the parts are made in Japan. Does anyone know if the engine is made in Japan? Or do they know where it is made? And please lets not get into a discussion about xenophobia or parochialism.

Who says they are made in Milwaukee?
I believe they are only assembled there and the parts are made in china and other parts of the world where there is no union or osha regulations.

I think where in the world something is made/assembled is no longer an issue*; it's having well designed products, then proper oversight and quality control in the factories.
*There are of course exceptions.
Brand names have lots to lose. Brand X not so much.

The items myself or friends have bought from the Kawasaki parts department, the stuff with genuine Kawasaki parts & where they were made stamped on them, is about 60% made in Japan & 40% made in Thailand.
The list is getting pretty long for bike made in Thailand:
KLX250S & SF (D-Tracker), Er-6, Ninja650/250, z800, Versys650, Honda CRF250, CB500F/N/R & Ducati 795 monster....there's a lot more but I can't remember at the moment! 100% assembled in Thailand.
The Japanese are keeping a close eye on quality control & to be honest the important parts like bearings, crank/conrod assembly, clutch friction & steel plates, piston, valves, camshaft, wheel rims, cam chain, swingarm, rear shock & o-rings all had made in Japan stamped on the bags. From what i remember.
Engine cases, cylinder barrel, switch gear, chain/sprockets, foot rests, forks, levers, handle bars, brake rotors, any plastic item are all made in Thailand. As a result of things being made here, I could walkout of Kawasaki with a full set of new body plastics for about 3000bart (100 bucks). Good excuse to change your plastics every couple of years!

My mate just purchased a KTM made in, wait for it, INDIA...
What is this world coming to?
Loving my Thai EFI by the way, as well as my mate in Thailand that sends me genuine Kawasaki parts at a fraction of what you suckers pay in Yankee land.
