Default 2010 KLX250Sf rod Knock :)

Well folks looks like I’m going to be shopping for some parts here. Just traded for this 2010 KLX250Sf a few months ago 13,800 miles . The bike recently picked up some top end noise ,so I tore into the valve cover assuming it was valves out of adjustment, and discovered fhe clunk in the crankshaft. I’m very new to 4 strokes but I was wondering if I can just replace the connecting rod and the crank bearings while it’s out . Can’t seem To find a rod rebuild kit ,Or am I stuck doing the whole crank

No video/audio. From what I've read here and on ADV rider threads, no rebuild available. You have to buy a whole crank.

I have a couple questions when it comes to the noise. Does the engine still have the automatic tensioner or a manual tensioner? If it still has the automatic tenseioner then Is it a knock or more of a rattle? Get a mechanic's stethoscope or use a long handle screwdriver with handle to the ear. Put the tip around the engine to see where the noise is loudest. Up around the cam chain tensioner and down around the crank. The KLX is known for automatic cam chain tensioners going bad so if the noise is loudest around the cam drive you may get off with just replacing the automatic tensioner. It can sound a bit like valve clicking, but is localized to the right side of the engine cylinder.

Let's hope it is simply the tensioner failed. If it is the tensioner it will be far less costly to deal with. A lot of riders here have switched, I happen to be the guy who started making them when contacted by riders several years ago. I also have KLXs, a 650 and a 250 both having failed OEM tensioners. If you find the tensioner may be bad, PM me and I can fill you in with more information.

If your not a motor gear head, I would take it to someone who is or post a video with audio here (or post link here). Chances of a rod bearing out in 14K is pretty out of the ordinary, unless the motor has been abused.

It could be your tensioner or piston slap.

Are you 100% sure that the timing chain is not loose? A bad tensionner would do that.

The noise is Deff coming from right side of engine and it also has the auto tensioner. It’s not as loud once it warms up

Take out the tensioner and inspect the teeth carefully. It's only 3 bolts on the back of the head to remove it.

If I'm seeing the video correctly, he's moving the crank and the cams are not moving. Definitely a chain/tensionner issue and has nothing to do with rod bearings.
