2009 Mods, Slip-ons, Rejetting ...
I sold my 2004 Super Sherpa about 3 months ago, and just picked up a 2009 KLX250S (green). I'm going to leave the new bike stock during the engine break-in period (which will be considerably shorter than what the manual recommends, LOL).
First mods will be an extendedbash plate, hand guards, and reshaping (cutting) the ugly rear fender. Any recommendations on the bash plate or the hand guards for an '09 model?
The bike purrs like a kitten with the overly restrictive stock exhaust, so next on the list will be finding a suitable aftermarket exhaust. It sounds like the carburetor is the same from previous models. I'm wondering, are there any recommendations for slip-ons which do not require a rejetting of the carb? I will be typically be riding from 500 to 1500 feet in altitude. Thanks in advance for the help!

you'll have to rejet no matter. it's lean from the factory, the slip-on or other exhaust system will only make things worse. plus, you'll be shortchanging yourself if you don't rejet. the two-brothers is hands down the best slip-on for this bike and it will fit the '09 no problem.

I've reconsidered. I still think it's a little stubby, but it is a nice unit. I'm still kicking an exhaust around for now. I just talked to BigGun two weeks ago, they told me they should have a slip-on EvoX for the KLX250S any day now. Then if I decide to go that route, I will be able to test the theory of smaller headpipe more low-end/big headpipe less low end more top end.

As far as handguards go, I had the dealer fit a pair of Cycras on for me. Apparently they went on with minimal effort. They swapped out the bar clamps, though, because the guards came in a set that included clamps for "oversized" aftermarket bars. And you can order the plastics in a bunch of different colours, shapes, etc.
