2009 klx250sf
Hi folks,
I have a new KLX250SF. I just put a couple of hundreds miles on it and I was wondering if you could suggest some mods to uncork it. My understanding is that the engine is the same as the S version.
Here are my ideas:
1) Getting the Two Brothers M7 slip on exhaust (I've seen it on eBay for $295).
2) Rejet the carbs
Here are my questions:
1) Do I also need a different air filter?
2) Any other important mods I'm missing?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm doing some research in the forum about the slip on exhausts, and I think that formy KLX250 SF the are 3 candidates:
1) Muzzys: looks nice, not too loud (93 dB) but expensive ($489)
2) FMF Q4: looks nice but from what I read in this forum the quality is substandard ($359)
3) Two Brothers M7: looks nice, is very loud (over 100 dB with no tip) and it's the less expensive of the three ($295).
Any comment on the finishing quality of the Two Bros slip on?
Thanks in advance!

The Two Brothers is just a slip-on and not a full system IIRC that's why its cheaper. The $489 for the Muzzys is for a full system. Where did you find one for that price? I thought they had gone up to $500 everywhere.

You can get the Q4 slip-on for $287 plus s&h on e-bay. The header is gonna put you back another $200 though. That muzzy is as loud if not louder than the two-brothers.
Along with the after market air filter you should take the snorkel out of the airbox lid and make that hole a bit larger. I'd go with a 1/4 turn votex throttle cause your on the street all the time but that's just me. Depending on how soft your front brakes are I'd consider a stainless steel front brake line. For a bit more giddyup you should think about dropping your front sprocket to a 13 tooth or go up a couple in the rear. You will lose some top speed but it's minimal.

I wouldn't say the FMF's quality is substandard. It's a nice looking can that's well-built. I got my local Kawi dealer to price match Dennis Kirk at 300 USD. Another $30 in factory parts (pilot, main, needle), a KDX200 snorkle, high-flow air filter, and it's a nice mild setup.
My main concern was noise- I wanted a Two Brothers, but I got to hear one IRL and I think it would be too loud for me on my commute.
