Question 2009 KLX250S running issues

I just removed the California Evap. canister, hoses, and separator.
trying to resolve a starting issue. Now when I roll off the throttle it boggs down almost as if it is really lean. I think perhaps I have a vacuum leak or an open passage between the air box and the carb. Can anyone help me diagnose this problem?
I admit I am still learning, and eager to learn something new.

I see you started a new thread, putting the lid back on should help the lean feeling. The stock/lean EPA jetting may be good at elevation.

Make sure you plugged all the vacuum ports when you removed all the emissions crap.

x2 Should be 3 locations. Front of the head. On the Carb. and the air box.

Did you leave the air box lid off? That will mess up the jetting and it will run terrible.

Alot of 09 bikes have starting issues and it had nothing ot do with your emissions stuff it dosent matter if they are on or off as that is not the problem.

resolved the running issues. Installed dynojet stage 2 kit in the carb and richened the fuel mixture screw to 3 turns out.

Good to hear. The DJ kit is really the best way to go on these bikes. On your 3 turns out on the fuel screw, it can easily back out further and drop out under the right conditions. It's a close call as to whether 2.5 or 3 turns should be maximum "out" for this screw. You may need to go up (bigger) one pilot jet to get this screw a little further in. And whether it would ever fall out or not, it would be nice to have some more enrichening left in reserve on the fuel screw if you need it sometime. If you're really needing that 3 turns out, the bigger pilot might be good. What pilot do you have now?

In theory, that should NEVER have fixed your problem. The smog stuff just needs to be removed, and plugged where hoses used to go. I filled the airbox nipples with clear silicone, then slipped caps over them Hopefully, if he caps deteriorate, the silicone will maintain a good seal. I did the same thing with a short piece of hose connected to the front engine breather port.

The stage 2 kit works really well on mine, though my settings are significantly different from yours because of the altitude where I live.

I'm wondering if mine never had starting problems because the fuel screw on mine was already out 2.5 turns (CA model). That was from the factory too... I had to drill and remove the EPA plug myself.
