My 2007 would get near 100MPG when I was doing the under 4K RPM break in procedure. Riding it pretty hard on the street now, I get around 70MPG if Idon't race it hard at stop lights.

I decided to see how mine would do. I hit 61mpg with "regular" street riding. All 45-60 MPH zones, nothing crazy on what looks like an all stock 2009 KLX250S on the outside. I got some soot on the tail pipe and I usually smell like gas after a ride. May be a tad rich, but I doubt it on a stock bike. Gonna look at the plug later. Anyone else check lately?

Wow thread is 4 years old, I didn't think this was ever going to be resurrected. LOL Trying to figure out the MPG on a bike is like trying to catch the wind. It's just hard to grasp what with all the different riding applications. Off road and on the highway two different things. I originally bought the KLX because of the high price of gas, now looking back I wish the prices were still that low.

Add in the inaccuracy of the Speedo/odo. If I say I am 10% 0ff on the odo I am getting about 62ish pretty consistent just riding around town. No effort to save gas.

Hey, I'll grab an old thread when it fits. I figured regular riding and using the indicated numbers are close enough. No need for error correction.

My speedo has been corrected (SpeedoDRD).

I *was* getting consistent 62-67 MPG, even after initial re-jet and KDX snorkel. I keep track of it regularly, every time I fill at a gas station (as opposed to filling from my lawn mower fuel supply). After almost 2,000 miles, my mileage hasn't drifted outside the 62-67MPG range.

However... after re-jetting for my new pipe (went from DJ116 to DJ120), my mileage dropped down to 55MPG.

That is what deters me from messing with my jets.

Since I am really commuting on it I wonder how much tires like the Shinko 705 or similar smooth tread tires might improve. I bet there would be a measurable increase judging from the howl of the current tires.

I am fine sounding like a jeep and not neutering my bike but I just might go with a less aggressive tire next. Won't be long with the rate of miles I am putting on. About 1000 in the last month.

When do you have to hit the reserve?

I personally never get that far as I seem to fill up at around 65 miles indicated. It takes about .9 gallons give or take and I figure in 10% error so (65*.9)/,9= 65. Round numbers of course.

I think I am going to putz next time and see what I can get.
