Default 2009 Kawasaki KLX 250s - Jetting Question

Just picked up a 2009 KlX 250s and wanted to know what jetting set up I need for around sea level in the Houston, TX area? The bike has a little over 800 miles on it right now and I plan to open up the air box. Also, should I wait to jet the bike due to not hitting the 1000 mile break in period yet?

Thanks

Go Green!!!

I rejetted at about 500 miles. When you say you want to open the air box up, what specifically are you thinking? Are there any other mods your considering as well?

no, i jetted mine right off the bat... i'd get rid of the bike if the power stayed at stock.. my mountain bike out the gate has more power without a few simple mods and it doesnt even have a motor.

I am wanting to take the snorkle off once I do the jetting on the bike. I have a FMF Q4 slip on that came with the bike, took off the smog equipment and plan to put on a higher flowing air filter. Does the Dyno Jet Kit give the jet sizes that are need for each particular elevation? Should I go with stage 1 or 2? Also, does taking off the snorkle make it a lot louder then stock?

If you make any mod that will affect air flow, you will NEED to re-jet it... unless you really don't like the bike that much.

I highly recommend the DynoJet kit and a KDX200 snorkel. If you look hard enough, you can find the kits for a decent price. Mine was under $50 shipped. Just beware that there ARE counterfeit kits being sold. Stay away from over-seas sellers, especially on eBay!

For me, adding a pipe (after doing the above) made very little difference overall.

What is the advantage of KDX 200 snorkle over just taking out the stock snorkle? Seems that more air will be moving with the stock snorkle taken out...

Wait until you ride it 55 MPH without the snorkel... your GF/Wife might like the intense vibration, but I certainly didn't!!! The KDX snorkel lets through more than enough air, and it doesn't produce the obnoxious noise or vibrations.

I have a similar setup and did the Dynojet Stage 2. I think I went with a 125 main, 3rd notch on the needle and a little over 3-turns out on the mixture screw. I'm at sea level as well.

As for the snorkel, try riding it without and see if you like it. Personally I thought it was too loud and I had more vibration. So I put in a KDX snorkel which has a larger opening for more air without the additional noise or vibration.

Do you have to change the jetting depending on if you go with KDX 200 snorkle or go without stock snorkle? The carb is not the easiest to get too on the KLX 250s and I am hoping to do this in only one shot.
