Yea I posted something about it a couple of months ago and almost got into trouble. A few guys including myself almost defected to the KTM, but I think they corralled us back in. Very nice bikes for sure. There is also a 525 that's street legal.

The KTM is a nice bike. The KTM's seem to be high maintenance and are expensive to own and operate. In Canada the KTM 450 is $9,700 plus set up and 15% tax. The new Kawasaki KLX 450R is about 1,500 less.

Too bad Japan can't figure out that what we'd really like is a street legal dirt bike in the 450+ cc range w/six speed tranny that can be easily un-detuned for our riding pleasure. The Europeans have it nailed with these bikes, IMO, from the likes of Husqvarna and KTM. I like the Japanese bikes for their high quality and good price, but if they don't have an offering that compares favorably with one of the Euro street legal endoros, I may be defecting in a few years. I'm plenty happy now with my KLX after much mods and experimentation, but it won't last forever. When that time comes, I'd like to buy green or blue (WR), but I'd have no reservations on buying one of the Euros - just figure I wouldn't like the price tag nor the cost and availability of parts.

Those bikes are too tall for me 5'8" with 30" inseam. The same with the huskies and other larger bikes. The klx is just right. Plus those seats don't look very comfortable. On open road they may be ok, but on tight trails and tight trail turns a bike like that is too high would be difficult to keep up. I hate it when my feet don't touch the ground!

You can alway get the "low" seat ...

It's an inch lower ...
EDIT: I guess for these racing bikes with plates, they need to be high so the pegs can clear ruts and such.
