2007 KLX250 bad tachometer, and break light
This is my first post on this forum. I have searched the forum for something similar to this, but found nothing. I did find manuals for similar bikes, but not my year. If anyone has manuals for 2007’s I would be extremely appreciative.
Bike
2007 KLX250, with less than 2500 miles.
Issues
1) Rear right turning signal shorted together.
2) Tachometer was sporadic, now dead totally
3) Breaking light is not working
My Turning signal was the first thing I noticed, after that not sure if it’s related (assuming it is) my tachometer was sporadic and my break light did not light up. The running light does work, just not the breaking light.
Su****ions
-I suspect a bad ground/ connection somewhere.
-Possibly the battery. (I will check the voltage under a load today)
What I have already tired
1) Properly soldered the wires for the rear turning signal, and replaced the bulb.
- Works like a champ
2) I checked the fuses for the tac and rear break light. (Not sure if I have checked them all. I am using a manual for 1985 model)
- No bad fuses or connections so far
3) Change the bulb in the rear break light.
- No change
4) Checked Amps in going through rear light bulb
- Less than 1 amp to the breaking light when I press the break (hand or foot). All three wires on my break light have good grounds.
If anyone can help me out with this, I would really appreciate this. I have a hill climb I would love to ride to if I can get this fixed in the next 3 days. Thanks in advanced

when you say sporadic, like it wouldnt hold steady numbers? and are you talking rpms or speed or both? check the speedo cable that hooks to the bottom of the tach and make sure its not damaged at that end or on the right side of the hub on the front wheel. i had the same problem last week but i was looking for an excuse to get the vapor kit so i did =]
as for the other problems i can only say keep looking for fuses and make sure connections are perfect. hopefully someone more helpful will chime in

I bought a 2007 with a totally inop tach. PO said it went on/off sporadically before it died. I recently found an old thread here that told how to troubleshoot the tach. There are 3 wires going in - black, black.yellow and brown. I can't remember which wire was which but you can test them under the instrument panel (tach side of course) with the headlight mask pulled off for clearance. There should be 12-14V between the black and black/yellow. If you have thew 12-14v (mine was 13.5v) then you have a bad tach. If there's not 12-14v then you have a problem with the wiring. IIRC the black wire connects to a blue somewhere in the harness and that connection sometimes pulls apart.
I personally have a bad tach and tghere's nothing to do but buy a Trailtech vapor (or other aftermarket unit).

Teamgreenrider91- My tac and speedometer are two sperate guages. my tac is INOP, but my speedometer is fine.
Dan888- i was wondering if youd find this post. i figured the manuals were at least similar. most everything i was looking at in the manual was right on with my bike. Do you know if the 2009 manual may be closer for the tail light? i know the instrument panel is digital in the 09's, so i wouldnt even mess with that.
djchan- i will try this today.
when i got home yesterady after work, my full tank of gas was all over my garage floor . i spent all day yesterday trying to clean up the mess. i have my pregnant wife and 1.5 year old at home, i didnt want the m breathing that. i have to take tomorrow off of work to get my bike back up and running. Now i have to find gas hose that will fit my bike. Can i just go to a car store (ie autozone, advanced auto) to buy a similar hose? thanks

Crazy - sometimes when the bike pukes gas it needs more than a new hose.
If the needle valve (works in cahoots with the float in the bowl of the carb) is not shutting completely then the gas will garvity feed to the bowl constantly and it gets shunted to the overflow hose and onto the floor.
Try to figure out where it's coming from before you go replacing things.
I'm glad you're worried about your wife and daughter but if you replace the wrong thing it'll happen again.

Dichan- i hear you. but in this case, ther was a hose that somehow broke. the gas just flowed right out of the tank. i also must have run down all over my bike too. i have the hose with me to replace it today.

I don't have one yet. I'll order the Trailtech Vapor model when a disposable $100 comes to my attention. I'm also gonna ditch the heavy stock headlight and the metal frame that holds it all together. Gotta be a 5 pound weight loss in there as well.
