2006 KLX250s: throttle position sensor
Hi everyone I'm new to the forum. My name's Rob and I live in eastern PA. I'm in the process of modding my new 2006 KLX250S and am at the carb stage. My bike came equipped with the Mikuni CVK34 carb. This carb has a TPS which I think is new to the KLX in 2006. I'm concerned if I replace the CVK with a pumper carb and leave the TPS disconnected then the bike will not run right. My understanding is the TPS works in conjunction with the CDI and has an effect on the ignition timing curve. Essentially a variable timing curve in relation to throttle position.
Has anyone out there encountered this situation? Any reccommendations for me?
Thanks everyone in advance for your time and consideration.
Regards, Rob

All of us that have put pumper carbs on have unplugged the TPS. It seems to make no difference in the performance. Kind of makes you wonder why its on there, huh?

Welcome Rob, I looked at your other posts and I remember when you were selling some of the stuff from your bike. Did you turn it into a SM bike? Did you get rid of any parts, what do you have left?

I havea pumper on mine and have noticed zilch, zero, nada difference. The TPS only affects how quickly timing gets advanced and has a very limited authority. Kawasaki likes to advertise that it helps with throttle response on theCVK, but my dealer says that's a load of crap.He said itactuallyholdsthe bike back a bitand is purposely made to be non-adjustable foremissions reasons. He said he wishesit was adjustable in order to get more advance.
I think it would be interesting to ohm the thing out, then get a variable resistor that has about the same range and play around a little.

Ok, time to do a blind taste test. Ride #1: have a friend either connect or disconnect the TPS on your bike. Take a ride. Ride #2: have your buddy reconnect or disconnect the TPS depending on what it was on the first ride. Take another ride.
I defy you to tell the difference between the two.

Hi VFR, Do you have the make and part number for your pumper. Please let me know and where you purchased it from with price. Thanks reno
