Some Carb jetting questions on 06 KLX250s

Postby stashu » Fri Nov 04, 2011 7:16 pm
Bike: 2006 KLX 250s

Just a few questions to be sure I'm doing it right.

FMF Q Slip on
KDX 200 Snorkle
13 tooth front sprocket
Dynojet 2260-Actually a Moose kit "same as a DynoJet except it "lacks a plug drill and screw"--The rep at DynoJet says this is the only difference between the DynoJet and Moose kits, the lack or amount of parts. The parts however are the same and quality is also the same .

Now this is where I need some help boys

I ride at an average of 722 above sea level.
Bought a DynoJet 2206 kit----I understand this is for a KDX 300
The Carb is on my bench awaiting me to operate on it. My plans are as follows:

Main jet change to 128
New needle set clip on 3rd groove--not sure on spacers though?? comments??
Drill out side hole on slide
Drill out plug on air/mixture screw----get a T-Handle for easy adjustments while on the bike
pilotjet-stock is 35 -Leave it??? or change to 40
drill out chokejet with a #77 drill bit ".018"--need to be careful the bits break easily

Did I miss anything?? or do something wrong?

Thanks for your help and comments!! I appreciate them!

Thanks and take care

Sounds like you're on a roll.
spacers (the little washers) go on TOP of the clip. They do not act as spacers, but instead help keep the needle tight against the top holder so it doesn't modulate up and down.
I'm stock pilot at 3000 ft. A lot of low elev guys go for 38 or 40 it seems. 38 was too rich for me. You'll be able to tell with the Kouba screw if its the right one or not. Should be between 1 and 3 turns out on the fuel screw. If more than 3, go bigger pilot. If less than 1, go smaller pilot. hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the reply/info--much appreciated!

Question: Why doesn't the Jet Kits also include pilot jets??
Anybody have a part number for a 38 and or 40 pilot??
I can only see the 35 pilot part # of 16014-1081

Thanks!!

The reason is that most setups don't require a pilot jet increase. Many folks are probably running a bigger pilot jet than is absolutely necessary. However, one can get away with a richer pilot jet better than a full clip change on the needle or a richer main jet. Those impact throttle response and performance more dramatically than a pilot jet IMO.

Maybe I should just leave the pilot jet "35" alone for now???

Thanks

Try it with the stock pilot. I run from around 600 ft to 1200 ft in my area and the stock pilot has been fine.
