Huh? One normally measures the valve clearances before taking it apart @ TDC.

Well once I saw how that exhaust cam looked, I then wanted to take the cam cover off to see what the journals and such looked like. So I would think it would be improper to measure first, then take the cam out and then re-install and then measure again. And I also assumed that feeler gauges would be readily available in my town, and I was wrong.
But, I'm no expert. And thanks for questioning how I do things.

I think your journals look ok, I never measured my clearances. If they lost oil, the would look totally different and trashed.
