Default 2004-2006 KLX250 tank upgrade

Hi, new member here, I have a question regarding tank upgrade for a particular KLX250 from 2004 - 2006. I’m currently looking into the IMS tank and Clarke tank but I wonder if the IMS tank will fit because the shroud is different (two piece snap together with a gap in the middle where you can see the actual tank, my 2006 KLX has 1 piece shroud which over lay on the tank makes me question if it interferes with the IMS tank). Anyone ever try to upgrade their 2004-2006 KLX with IMS tank? Do the shrouds still fit without modification? Thanks for your help!

I don't have a 04-06 model, but I do run an Acerbis tank designed for them.
The tank design acts as crash bars for the rads. They are pretty strong.

wow that looks fantastic my friend! But I really want to keep the stock shrouds so I’m currently looking into IMS and Clarke tank. Thank you for sharing!

Suggestions- get the Acerbis tank, remove and save your stock tank and shrouds from getting damaged. Put them back on when your ready to sell the bike.

I, too, have an 06 and have researched whether or not the IMS tank would fit. I've spent hours searching and asking questions but haven't found ANYONE who could confirm the IMS would mount up. I hope you have better luck than me.

In the end, I'll be going the Acerbis tank as I absolutely know how it will look and fit - LOTS of others have gone with Acerbis. Lots of pics available.

Seems like some pics are no longer there in some old thread??
extract: Each shroud was cut to make it fit the tank outline and then re-formed with heat gun to make it follow the shape of the tank.

Thanks for providing the link!

As this is the 3.2gal tank, it must be the one specific to the 97-07 KLX 300, per IMS website. Can someone confirm this is the correct tank to FIT the 04-06 vintage KLX 250?

I was told it fits but with the klx300 shroud. You may have to mod the radiator fan and the petcook too.
I went with acerbis so I don't have first hand experience.
