Not any significant changes should bolt right in.

If the motor just has a broken tensioner, getting that fixed should not be too complicated.

I have a 93-96 manual and mostly the same as my 07, except for the kickstart I think.

Thanks for the help

I have replaced the tensioner but when I pulled the old one out a peace from the tensioner had broken off and fallen in the motor and it making a grinding noise so I think the damage is already done

Pull off the right side cover and see if the part is in there. I had the spring from the compression release take a trip down into the bowels of my KLX 650, found it a bit the worse for wear when the top end was torn down for worn cam chains and burnt valves. The bottom end is still together about 20,000 miles later. Bits like that usually end up in places that won't trash an engine. I think the design is such that it should be in the side case, maybe grinding against something there. it is too big to get into bearings. Worth trying for sure. Take a look - less costly than another engine.
