2 gal tank range?
#12
With several tanks down since going to a DJ140 main needle at 3N I can safely say for commuting I am getting 68-69mpg. Doing the math that is 135-140 miles on 2 gal of regular. Not much less than I got on the 132 main. As long as I keep the speed close to legal. Horsing around town with some woods riding I got 63mpg for 126 miles to a tank.

I get 80 miles before reserve, 100 if I run it nearly dry. Comes out to about 50mpg.
I ride only city, moderate to heavy traffic at high rpm ranges mostly, ride it like I stole it. 5k feet ASL, dynojet, slipon, lidless

There may be a thread on this somewhere -- if so I apologize for not finding it -- but I'd like to see or hear about solutions for carrying extra gas. Up in the Sierra where I usually ride the KLX there ain't a hell of a lot of gas stations. Marijuana gardens, yes, but no gas.

PMR racks

PMR racks can hold roto-pax gas cans. which they sell as well.
MSR fuel bottles,
BiltWell Fuel bottles, hold 1/3 of a gallon.
I was going to get a Primus fuel bottle and a Wolfman Bottle Holster.
If I didn't have a sissy bar rack on my PMR rack, and needed gas just to go exploring, I would go with the roto-pax fuel cans.
You could also add a side rack and carry fuel on the side of your bike.

I use this with a 30 oz fuel bottle in each pouch(plus some foam around them)
Serves 2 functions - extra fuel & the seat is more comfortable for longer rides.

80 miles
Thans all for your input. I love this bike, what a beauty! I don't like to push the limits on the fuel range, as you know stalling out in an intersection can be deadly. Reserve can't help you then. I think 80 is the magic number, if you think other wise let me know.......remember this is the carbed version, EFI I think wouldn't be comparable.
I filled up today. I can go 3 days back and forward to work. only 15 miles out and back. 30 miles. 3 days. 90 miles plus some to get to the gas station.
I filled up today, just over a gallon and half. 1.567. Didn't even have the reserve on yet.
If you really wanted to see how many more miles you can go, when you fill up next time, see how many gallons you put into your tank. you have a 2 gallon tank, so anything up to that you know you have extra.
for example say at 80 miles you fill up you only put 0.775 or 1.000 gallons of gas in the tank, and minus that from 2.000 gallons.
then decide if you think you could go further. haha.
but if 80 miles your at a convenient place to stop to get gas, that is awesome.
either way this bike gets good MPGs.

I can go around 70 miles until I hit the reserve (speedo calibrated) I think that may matter for those that claim 90 mpg
the very first tank brand new bike I hit reserve at 90 some miles but speedo is way off
Shortly after I calibrated it, which may be why I had such a severe drop in mpg because the odometer is now counting the correct mileage
so I had been filling up at 60 miles, everytime I run out its on the freeway and takes a while to find the reserve dial, and have it get the engine running again and thats a pain
so filling up at 60 miles prevents that from happening
I just bought an ims 3 gallon tank and im still on the first tankful at 95 miles
and have not hit the reserve yet
that $246 investment is well worth it im hoping I can break 100 miles before reserve
then I may drive it until it runs out to see how far I can really go
most weekends just running errands I would fill up 3 times would hate to see how much I had to fill if I drove it daily
so hopefully the larger tank will make it less frequent
