I had the biek out last noght after putting hte carb back in, but really didn't get a feel for the improvement. Today, I went for a 70 miles ride through local gravel roads and onto some sandy fire roads in one area. Wow! Night and day improvement from the day I brought her home. It feels like a real motorcycle now. The drilled out pipe is just the right volume and sounds real smooth from 4500-8000. After 8000, power really falls off. I think teh exhaust is still a major restriction. I broke down and ordered the Muzzy full system. It should free up those last 2 or 3 ponies up top and really unleash the monster within waiting to get out.

There are no flat spots, bogging or surging, so I think the jetting is pretty good. When restarting when warm, I need to give it a 1/4 throttle or so for it to catch. I might still need to play with the mixture screw, but I'll wait unitl after the Muzzy shows up.

Key Gains in Performance:

1) Throttle response... stock had almost none, now it's pretty sharp. Not like FI or flat slides on a sportbike, but it doesn't bog down or lag. This is improtant when you come plopping around a corner in a tall gear, and 2 dogs start running towards you... a quick downshift and a handfull of throttle and your GONE!

2) Power increase... everywhere. Best guess is 2 or 3 ft-lbs across the whole rev range. The biggest gains seem to be in the midrange. The crankcase mod and fuel mixture adjustment really seemed to open up the bottom end (3000-5000). 3rd gear at 20mph (stock gearing) pulled pretty good through some deep sand.

3) 1st gear is overpowered... woohoo! Grab a handfull of throttle over 6000RPM and the front is is going skyward.

4) Nice deep growl comming from the airbox over 5000RPM. The bigger KX snorkle seems to work nicely. It's matched with a UNI Filter.

In summary:

Stock motor = Decaffinated Folgers Crystals

Motor After Mods = Convenience Store Black Coffee. Got some punch to it

After Muzzy Installed? = Expresso Baby... even if just a single shot.
