17" motard wheels just arrived!

RE: 17" motard wheels just arrived!
How do these smaller rims handle compared to the stock set assuming similar tires on both?
Also, please give me a review of the brakes once you get to run them a little. My stock brakes and tires are due for an upgrade. I'm debating the master cyclinder & brake line mod. What's another ~$200 for a big front rotor?

It is difficult to compare, since it had knobbies and now has big fat street tires. The gearing is now lower due to smaller diameter wheels, which I may stick with as opposed to bumping up to 15 tooth front sprocket. The front is most noticable, quicker corning and crispy handling and far as lane changes and swirvy curvy swooping around (best way I can phrase that). Brakes are night and day different from stock. Much improved.Tries toput the backend in the air just to see if I could, and it did. I would suggest doing the whole package; master cylinder, stainless line and rotor/pads. Any one of the 3 may offer some improvement but, really why go part of the way? I agree with one of the posters who suggested a KX master cylinder which I probably would not have thought of otherwise. Good used ones can be had on E-bay for less than new. Rebuild kits can fix not so good ones. Anyhow, the bike can now tear up the road, the small and relatively light weight of the 250 is a plus. I have a Xr650r in super moto trim and now that I have the KLX setup I will not be riding the Big Red Pig anymore. I forgot to mention that I used silicone brake fluid as well, it does not absorb moisture like DOT 3 does. Hope this helps to chart a path for those thinking about the changeover.

It's good to hear that the KX250F master cylinder is working-out for you. Here in Japan, we generally go with the KX250(non F) MC when we upgrade the brakes on the KLX. It makes a night andday improvement. It's good to hear about options though. Too bad we can't do a head-to-head comparision.
Are you going to restore the brake light function? I went with a single deep banjo bolt oil pressure switch to get thatback.Just hook it to the old wires for the micro switch.

The graphics are pretty much a find what you can and make them fit deal, be creative. I used the winter months to develop and finish that off. I had a set for my KX250F that I decided o use on my KLX, with a little work it and pure strength of will it can be done.
The front brake switch was handled by a 10x1.25 banjo bolt light switch, very easy install and mated to existing wiring harness with plugs. The brakeline is from a Wr450F and fit just fine. Just picked up some Zeta shorty levers and will install those today. Weather goes from 70 degrees with rain to 40 degrees and high winds! Definately not a bikers paradise. Oh well, back to the basement for some indoor racing action, Rossi and Biaggi and the rest of the 'late brakers' in 1/18 scale!!!!
