13T sprocket & Top Speed
#22
All I know is that when I got the bike before the jetting and the pipe, and with stock gears, you better be going down hill if you wanted to use 6th. After the 13 tooth, 6th gear was totally usable, well at least on the flat, but hills were still a beotch. Then came the jetting and pipe, and the addition of the 45 rear sprocket. All of that added up to making 6th gear feel like 5th, and it was all good after that. It's what I call progressive perfection.
Cool, thanks for the info
If I switch the rear sprocket to 45, do I need to change the chain also? and since funds are minimal right now and I can't afford a pipe and jetting, I was thinking of just changing to the 13t up front, would it be benificial to change the rear to a 45 also? Only mod on the bike is from PO and it's the snorkel has been removed, but the actual lid is still on it.

I think it depends on how much you weigh. I did the opposite of most folks. I bought my bike ('07) from someone who had changed to a 13 tooth front. I rode it for over a year and then I just changed to the 14 tooth last week just to see if I liked it. I absolutely love it on the road. I weigh 160 lbs and I fly on this thing, it feels like a completely different bike and 4th gear seems to pull like crazy.
New tires (thanks for the advice on the other thread) and new gearing makes me feel like I have a new mistress.

Yeah since the KLX don't have enough HP to pull redline in 6th gear, you aren't losing any top end with the 13T. Definitely a great mod with no real downside.
