Quick question. The 45-tooth rear sprocket, is it the same as KLX300? I'm not sure which one to order. I went riding in some very technical stuff last night. I need some sprockets to gear this thing down. Reving the motor and slipping the clutch got real old. Thanks.

97-06 KLX300. There are many different sizes. The 45T fits the guards nicely. 3t in the rear = 1t in the front.

is anyone else having that noise problem with the 13t c/s sprocket? or is todd the only one because I just ordered the same sprocket that todd installed. Any advise please!
Well, I changed the C/S sprocket for the 3rd time in 3 days last night (I'm fast now!). I went back to the 13t to stay. The noise is slightly worse than the OEM sprocket but the bike is so much nicer to ride that I'll deal with it.

Okay guys I know that this subject has been beat down but I'm going today and try to order my front sprocket and I just want to make sure that the best one for this bike is the pro40-13 tooth sprocket that is in the picture at the front of this thread? I also was wanted to change the rear and the chain but I want to see how much a difference it makes with just the front sprocket changed out. Are there any more thoughts on this matter before I go and order this thing today? I don't care about top end at all I just want to be able to pull the front end up and to get out of those mud holes that I tend to find myself in from time to time. So has anyone else changed the sprockets to 13/45 with a 109link chain? Whats the skinny??

That's PO45-13 and yes, that's the best one. A Sprocket Specialists 564-13 will also work but it's not as close to the OEM as the PO45. The splines are the same but the 564 has a larger diameter (not width) shoulder. It seems to be running just fine on mine.

Tony has the 45t and chain done too. He seems to love it. I'm sticking with just the 13t as I still do some highway.

Okay anouther question,, does the pro45-13 increase the chain noise that you were talking about? Also what size socket did you use to get the thing off with. Im not that mechanicly inclined. It looks like an easy task to do but my skills and tools are limited? Any walkthu page that you know of.... or is just take off one bolt and then put the other on??? Did you have to make any adjustments when you were done? Sorry this might be beginner stuff for you but its my first time doing my own work.. need all the help I can get from you experts. Thanks

Gravy Train, while I am mechanically inclined, (Maintenance Mechanic for the University of Washington) I too am going to rely on the great information here from guys that have done this kind of work. I have been out of the bike tinkering game for 20 years, and even then I don't think I had a bike, three wheeler, or a quad long enough to do too many repairs. Don't apologize for asking questions, or not knowing some stuff, that's what this site and these great guys are here for. Keep us informed on you're progress, and to quote the Sargent from Hill Street Blues...."Let's be careful out there"

All right folks,, I'm very disappointed in my dealer in North Carolina. I went today to order my front sprocket and took all the info from this site to help me out. Well they don't even have the 2006 books or program that will show parts for the klx. I told him that I was looking for the PBI po45-13 part #50-045/13 and he had no idea what I was talking about.
Do you guys have a site where I can order the thing online? Or am I stuck with the parts guy answer..... Sir you have to wait until we get the 2006 parts books!! I know that you all can help. I just don't want to get the wrong one. Help me please!!

GT, maybe this will help. Look at post #9. They should be able to cross the JT #. Or call Dual-Star and tell them what you want, keep in mind, they don't have an on-line part#, but Mike said he will get them.
