If I'm not too clear or a liitle scatter brained today...Vicodine, Jim Beam and kidney stones.

Here we go. Got a 13t counter shaft sprocket today. Not the one I was expecting, but the one I really wanted.


For those who don't know the mod list check it out. Don't over tighten the sprocket nut, it's a bear to get off by yourself. With the 13t front, 45t rear and 109link chain, I'm adjusted to 7.5 on the snail's. Maybe I can get the stock chain back on some other time.

Went for the big test ride. Here are my variables: low 40's, 25psi in F and R tires, regular gas, dry streets and 195lbs of me. Headed 60 miles north on interstate #5. The traffic flow was 70-80 mph, which was perfect. Ran the bike mostly at 77mph. On the flats I opened 'er up to top at 85 mph which was acceptable, It climbed the steep grades and did not drop below 76mph, awsome. I had a hard time staying below 75mph, my bad, just kept up with traffic. The bike does get blown around a bit by the truckers.

I fuel up before the trip home, got 54.8 mpg on the way there. Not bad at all for the cold weather. I chose HWY9 for my trip home which was a 50-60mph road. The bike was fantastic, I only left 6th gear at the stop lights, cruised right through the hair pins. From 35 to 70mph I did not have to leave 6th gear. When I got home I fueled up and POW...65.4 MPG. Love that.

60mph = 6,600RPM
70mph = 7,700RPM
80mph = 9,000RPM
85mph = 9,600RPM

I believe that Kawi should have set up this bike with a 13/45 gear set. And the front end will jump up and bite you in first, at take off, with this set up. Can't wait to get it on the trails again.

Great news! I think that's just the ticket. I may try just the 13t up front first to see how that does and then add the back if that's not enough.

 

Whats with the clip? Do you throw that away?

 

The clip looks like the KLX300 retainer, but not our application.

Fantastic news Tony, I just installed my 13 tooth tonight road it around the block and i will have to say it does feel different, lot more snap off the line then what it had before.I myself went a diiferent route and got a sprocket that is in stock at most of your local shops.This sprocket fits kx250 99-04, yz250 99-04 yz/wr 400-426f-450f 98-04 and the raptor 01-04, part #289-520-13GP Made by Renthal,This is a flange less sproket so the Tech. at the shop supplied me with a spacer that toke up the difference of the oe flange style sprocket. After some carefull measuring i secured it on.

Hey Tony the tires on you're bike look different than the ones that came on mine. Mine look like motorcross tires, really aggressive. Could you tell me what brand and model the tires are? Mine are the Dunlop 603's.

 

Dunlop 603 = $180. My rear is a BridgestoneTW302 $80-$100. Depends on where you look. I'm VERY happy with it.

 

Hey Tony, I found out that the Dunlop 603 is really hard to find, and if it is $180.00 then I am going to go with this one. I guess it all depends on what type of ridding you are going to do. Anyway the Dunlop 606 is so close to the 603 that I can hardly tell the difference. Here it is, and a good price too.
