+1 on the Moose sprocket.
The Moose racing sprocket is actually listed for our bikes. I bought one, and it fit perfectly. Any shop that sells stuff out of the Parts Unlimited book, can get you the Moose stuff.

Flatten out the d...ned washer!!
In other words, it has to be completey FLAT! Then it comes off even with out a "rattle gun". I'm a retired Insurance Agent.... if I can do it, I'm confident that some one with decent wrenching skills can get the job done.
So, Gary, tell those unsuccessful fellows to get their glasses cleaned and look at the washer closely... and they'll see that I am right.
Best regards,

Zee sprocket from a Honda XR 650 L on to my KLX...
Just can't seem to change anything out on the bike without running into two fangs!
Then Deej shows up to help but I think he just wanted to be lathered up with butter....

YES IT DOES!! Your Kawi dealer knew that the washer, behind the nut, is a rippled washer. It's rather rare usage, indeed! You must use a small drift pin to flatten ALL of the raised edges of the rippled washer.
