So, based on precedent, Thumpers are not twins - Thumpers are singular.. And it follows that this also rules out triplets, and quadruplets..

Thing is there's only about three paragraphs of relevant material that can be had on gearing and most of it can be found by doing a simple google search. So what do we do with the rest of the thread? We screw around going off topic. A way of life. The train of thought wanders off multiple directions.





Nah, I was using your logic. I still go with history. Single cylinder four stroke bikes were referred to as thumpers long before I was born and that was 1953. I'm not sure, but it may have started in the UK with all the big singles built over the decades.

I did a search for "who coined the term thumper for motorcycles" click here to see the results, some from very reliable sources including the American Motorcyclist Association.. Last word on my part on the subject guys... I promise

 

Thumpers are called thumpers cause they sound that way, same as HD's. Otherwise 2 smokers would all be called thumpers, and they are not!
