13 + 45 = 108?

Default 13 + 45 = 108?

I purchased my 09 used. It came with a 15t front sprocket.
I am not very satisified with the higher gearing. It seems to bog on trails, or sometimes be between gears, where i need to shift constantly.

Anyway, I am wanting to lower the gears down for more low end. I am thinking of going to a 13t front and a 45t rear.

Will i need to get a new chain? I read something about a 108 chain. Do i just call up a local bike shop and ask 'do you have a 108 chain?'

Also, where is a good place to purchase both sprockets from the same seller?

last question: i am mechanically inclined, but i am not sure about swapping these sprockets myself. Would i be a loser for have a shop swap out the sprockets and chain? (i don't have any chain tools)

I did my own...no chain tools either...but I did have and use a dremel to cut the necessary links off the 110 chain that I ordered. If you can get a 108 link chain, that negates the need for a chain tool anyways. The hardest part, in my opinion, is going to be getting the front sprocket off....you will likely need an impact gun for that...it's on really tight (usually). Try Kimpex for both..I have the Kimpex sprocket on teh front, and a JT on the rear, but I believe I got them both from the same supllier...shouldn't be a problem. Good luck.

13/45 is a great combo for trails and limited road..I still can run at about 65 MPH, but am revving about 7000 RPMs when I do.

On the front sprocket there is a washer behind it that is bent to make it hard to get off. If you take a hammer to it and flatten it the bolt will come off with ease. Hope that helps next time you do the sprocket just remember to bend it back when you replace it.

got all my stuff from rocky mountian atv.
got a 13th counter sprocket, a 45th renthal rear sprocket and a 108 link regina o-ring chain.
the counter sprocket is really tuff to get off. take a punch and work your way around the lock washer real good. gotta make sure it's flat! Then get you a breaker bar, run a ratcheting strap thru your back wheel and around swingarm, have someone step on back brake or wedge a piece of wood in there. now be prepared to strain a bit. lol. The nut comes off counter clockwise.

once I had the washer flat on mine I stood on the bike one foot on the back break and kicked down with the other foot on the wrench and the Nut came right off. It has worked for me everytime, and by everytime I mean all of thethree times I have changed it.

Yes, for the front and rear.

Rear is same application as the current KX250F motocross model. Easy to find rears.

I checked rockymtn atv and they dont list a 45 for the rear, and only a 14t for the front.

I think i am going to call a local shop to see if they might have some cross part. I searched and came up with a Honda XLR650L for the front, 13tooth. what year should I look for?

And based off of the above about the KX250F, I will see if they have a 45t rear.

If there is a place I can order online for both (same place), feel free to post a link. I am still wading through searches for them also.

man that is a lot of search returns. i found the part at rockymtn for the front. Now i just need to find the rear.


if anyone else sees this, there is thread titled 13 tooth sprocket for 2009, this thread has good info on the front sprocket.

part#112U-520 45GESI.
